Hello, my name is Therasa and I am a Pinterest addict. Not to belittle those with real addictions but I think about Pinterest almost every minute of every day. What recipes I want to try, what craft projects I want to do, what quilts I want to make - the wants are endless!
For me, Pinterest is an addiction. I know this because I was so addicted to pinning that I wasn't getting around to actually doing the things I had pinned. Normally, I am eager to play around with my supplies but I had become so distracted by the possibilities and keeping them organized that actually doing them had become a bother. It would take me away from pinning!
So I decided I needed an intervention - staged by me - I needed to actually get started. And the things that I wanted to do most revolved around the organization of my life and craft room. Of course, if that meant being creative in the mean time, well....I was sure that the satisfaction of doing it would eventually outweigh the possible missed opportunities to pin.
I decided I was going to start by creating a DIY Rotating Goal List. I went to the web page detailing how to make the goal list, got all of my supplies together, and then realized a huge flaw in my plan. I couldn't use it. I didn't have anywhere to put it up. Each room was delicately planned and my craft room, which I had planned to use as my command center, already had all its wall space accounted for. Which made me think of another pin.
I had seen a pin for a children's room decorated using magnetic paint, chalk paint, and white board paint. Hhmmm, there were two really poorly painted closet doors that I could use. So I bought the Rustoleum magnetic paint and began painting. ( Keep in mind that a quart or 30 fl oz can is around $25.00 here - that is not even 4 cups - and is supposed to cover 16 sq ft with 3 coats. )
This is what I noticed about this product:
First off, it says it is dark gray - try black. You will definitely need to avoid getting it on anything because it doesn't come off.
Then it said to make sure to have it shaken to mix the paint before you try to use it - no joke, I had to mix it by hand and it took forever. I guess I should have read that closer before I got it home.
And lastly, it said to use 3 light applications instead of 2 normal applications. Ha! Apparently my idea of a normal application is in fact light because I had to use 3 applications before it would hold even the lightest magnet.
Good news is that it worked. I used the whole can for a single door - it turns out that a single door is about 18 sq ft. Wow, I was way off on estimating their area. I then applied two coats of low-grade white paint ( what was originally used to cover them ) over it and it still holds paper and magnets! Not the strongest but it works for what I wanted it to. Take a look.
I only painted the one door because we are in a rental and I didn't want to spend $50 on making a pair of ugly doors magnetic.
Yes, those are receipts. I am going to make a menu planner that will include the estimated cost of each meal so that I can budget as well! Pinterest is truly inspiring! But that is not even started yet - back to the topic at hand.
I am excited to start using the door. I obviously will use it for my planning but also for holding quilt blocks currently in construction. I has seen someone using a large metal sheet for this and thought it would work if the blocks weren't too heavy. There not. I could also use it for materials for card making and scrapbooking and for whatever else I can think of.
So while this wasn't the hardest paint job ever it wasn't the funnest either. And while the paint isn't as strong as I would IDEALLY like, it still worked that way I wanted it to and I will do it again, in another home most likely. As for my DIY Rotating Goal List? I will post about that next.
